Intervals: Let's talk relationship

Dr. Keys: Before we can talk about chords, Cate, we need a way to describe how notes relate to each other. That's where the concept of interval comes into play—it has to do with the distance between two notes. For example:

A large interval and a small one.

If we count off the distance between the two notes, we get the interval's name:

Identify intervals—seconds and thirds, for example—by counting keys.

And so on. Notice how we include the first and last notes in our tally.

Cate: But not the black keys?
